There is something intrinsically inspiring, motivating, and challenging about going into a new year.
And, as Americans, we are fond of making New Year’s resolutions and looking forward to some degree of self-improvement or attaining new goals. The problem is that most of us never get very far with those resolutions.
How to Eat Healthy in 2022 – A Fine Resolution
Health and well-being are consistently among the top subjects of New Year’s resolutions in the U.S. In fact, a recent People article noted that,
“A study of 2,000 Americans found that a new exercise routine (34 percent), a new hobby (31 percent) and a new cooking regimen (29 percent) were among the top new habits to try last year.”
That study, conducted for Verv, also found that healthy eating better (39 percent), managing stress better (33 percent), and exercising more consistently (30 percent) were among the top New Year’s resolutions for 2021.
The article went on to note, however,
“But the trend toward abandoning new healthy habits might linger, too, with the average respondent saying they usually only keep their New Year’s resolution for 36 days, a little more than a month.”
We suspect that many of us share many of the same resolutions, such as pursuing more healthy eating habits, increasing the amount of organic food and seafood in our diets, and stocking up on healthy foods to eat.
When it comes to pursuing a healthy eating lifestyle, the challenge for many of us is knowing exactly how to eat healthily?
Many dietary experts agree that, for the most part, healthy eating and knowing how to eat healthy is mostly a matter of common sense and sticking with primarily fresh or raw foods.
Healthy Eating: Fresh Food, Green Food, Organic Food, and Cal Mart
There are plenty of healthy diet programs and plans that one can subscribe to. And, for some, these are probably a great way to stick with eating healthier foods and mitigate health issues with diet. But not everyone needs to follow a program or detailed eating plan with multiple “eat this, not that” type of restrictions.
For most of us, simply eating smart is sufficient.
Eating smart generally means a diet that is rich in vegetables, especially leafy greens, light in red meat and processed meats, and big on seafood, and almost devoid of packaged, processed, and “fast” foods. And a great start is to stock up on fresh produce in Calistoga at Cal Mart!
And don’t forget the wine – especially Reds – to round out a tried and true healthier diet.
In fact, according to an article from EatingWell,
“Perhaps the world’s healthiest diet, the Mediterranean diet is abundant in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and olive oil. It features fish and poultry—lean sources of protein—over red meat. Red wine is consumed regularly but in moderate amounts.”
